VRT (aka Vestibular Physiotherapy) is a customized exercise-based program designed to reduce the symptoms of vestibular disorders. The specific type of treatment you will receive depends on the cause of your symptoms. Your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough history and clinical exam to determine an optimal treatment plan that is right for you.

The vestibular system includes part of the inner ear and brain that interpret, process and coordinate sensory information involved with controlling balance, spatial orientation and eye movements.

Disease or injury can affect your vestibular system, altering the system’s function resulting in symptoms such as: vertigo (the perception of movement/spinning of self or the environment around you), dizziness, imbalance, unsteadiness or falls, nausea and/or vomiting, decreased coordination, blurred or bouncing vision.

Some common vestibular disorders that we are able to treat and manage include, but are not limited to:

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Vestibular Neuritis/Labyrinthitis
  • Age-related Dizziness & Imbalance
  • Post-concussion Symptoms
  • Motion Sensitivity
  • Ototoxicity (inner ear function can be affected by certain drugs or chemicals)
